How to draw a flat sketch from a garment

The flat sketch is the blueprint for pattern making along with the spec which I’ll go over later in the series.

In this video I go over a quick way to draw a flat sketch from a garment. I use Adobe illustrator in the video, but you can use tracing paper and a pencil.

To draw a flat by hand do the following:

  1. Lay your garment out flat
  2. Take a picture of your garment
  3. Print out the picture
  4. Lay a piece of tracing paper over the picture
  5. Trace the seams, stitching and details
