The Secret to a Perfect Outfit is Easier than You Think

After a much-needed break, I’m slowly easing myself back into the CMC world.

My daughter’s summer camp is winding down next week, and I think I’m happier about it then they are. It’s been an over scheduled summer to say the least, I know you can relate.

I will say, what has helped me not have a melt down every morning is my ability to get dressed fast and still look professional for work.

The secret to a perfect outfit is to have a personal uniform. I have one and it works.

It allows me to:

  1. Get dressed quickly
  2. Looked pulled together
  3. Minimize my closet
  4. Have a distinct look

Now I must say, this works for me and if you have a job that doesn’t require a specific uniform, it can work for you too.

The items of clothing don’t have to be the same, but the idea of putting together pieces that work for your style and body all the time is a huge time saver. Not only that, it lessens the amount of decisions you make on a daily basis.

My summer personal uniform is as follows:

  • A tunic, in various colors, silhouettes (shapes), fabrics and lengths.
  • A pair of jeans in a variety of fits and washes,
  • Gaylay (head wrap) to match
  • Accessories
  • Shoes, sandals or sneakers- depending on the day

That’s it!

It literally takes less than ten minutes to get dressed in the morning and that’s only because I have to iron my tunic. Dressed not ready, there is a difference J

Most of my uniform’s uniqueness comes from my tunic or accessories. If you’re into shoes, that could be your statement piece. I would say choose one statement piece per outfit and build around it.

A tunic top can be worn so many different ways, that’s why it will be the first pattern that I offer for CMC!

I’m working on it as we speak, and I’m really excited to release it soon. It is named after Ummi (my mother in Arabic), my first sewing teacher, the ‘Aziza Tunic.’

I’ll keep you posted with new developments and will post my process here and on Instagram.
