I was in Trader Joe’s the other day shopping with my headphones on, not paying attention, and a woman taps me on the shoulder. I turn around and take my headphones off one ear and she says “I like your coat” I look at her, she’s smiling and posing at the same time. I pause and notice she is wearing my exact same coat! Same color and everything! I smile back and say, “I like yours too, I bought mine three years ago!” Lady: “oh, you were way ahead of the curve!” I continue, “have you seen it on the news? Everyone has it!”

I know you like me, don’t want to look like everyone else. We take pride in doing our own thing and having our own style. So when I’m in Trader Joe’s or walking down 34th street in NYC and can spot several people in the same coat, it’s time to donate and move on.

Everyone has to wear clothes when going outside (legally) right? So why not look good when doing it? It doesn’t have to be the latest trends, but it should fit you to a ‘t’, and feel fabulous with your own unique style. No one else has it, because you made it. People will ask where you got it and you say “’oh this, as a matter-of-fact, I whipped it up last week!”

Not like my coat, that everyone has now…

We don’t care about following trends, it’ about being our own person in a unique and modern way. When you buy something, you never know how many where made. But when you make something, only you have it.

P.S.
For those who have been here since the beginning of this journey, I started out with the name Cover Me Chic, which had to later change to Zahiyya because of legal reasons. That has been worked out, so Cover Me Chic is back!

The Zahiyya website is still live and will be for a while but I have been transitioning all my content over to covermechic.com.
